Invitation of Mystic Messenger Episode 04
This post covers Episode 04 of the official Mystic Messenger webtoon, Invitation of Mystic Messenger (check out my game intro and Another Story walkthrough if you’re new!). This episode covers Hana’s first face-to-face meeting with all the RFA members, and it’s great at capturing each character’s personality: the self-obsessed Zen, the friendly Yoosung, the earnest-but-total-fangirl Jaehee, the imposing-yet-inexplicably-into-dark-magic Jumin, and the absolute chaos that is 707.

Invitation of Mystic Messenger Episode 04
Hana realizes she actually crossed paths with Zen back in Episode 01. Then it’s introductions all around. Zen goes first, announcing he’s an actor (Hana thinks: no wonder he’s so good-looking; Jaehee mutters under her breath: watch your love life).
Yoosung shyly introduces himself as a college student on break, saying he has plenty of time to help (Hana thinks: he’s adorable, is he younger than me?). Which immediately gets him roasted by Zen and Jaehee:
Zen: Why are you being so shy all of a sudden!
Yoosung: I’m not!
Jaehee: Actually, I’ve never seen Yoosung talk to a girl who isn’t Rika.
Zen: You’re not a Dateless Wonder, are you? [A “Dateless Wonder” — someone who has never been on a date in their life, lol]
Yoosung: (crying) It’s not like I want to be!!
Jumin cuts the Yoosung roast session short. (Zen grumbles: “No need to be such a stick in the mud from the get-go.” [A “stick in the mud” = a killjoy; “from the get-go” = from the very start. So basically: “We just met, no need to be such a buzzkill already.”])
Jaehee invites Hana to sit down, and everyone gives her a proper welcome.
You can tell Jumin — well, really Jaehee — put a lot of work into setting up this office for her. Hana starts doubting herself again, and Zen catches on. He reassures her that everyone will pitch in. Just as Hana is touched and a little surprised that he read her so well, Zen’s signature self-obsession kicks in and he announces he’ll send everyone a selfie to boost their spirits (Jaehee is visibly nodding). The conversation spirals back into Zen’s ego and Jaehee’s fangirling until Jumin steers things back to the actual meeting agenda.
Jaehee explains that Hana can use anything in the apartment, and that she’ll receive a salary based on her work. Hana mentions that V never actually explained what the RFA does.
Jaehee fills her in: RFA stands for Rika’s Fundraising Association. They weren’t able to hold their biennial event last year, so this year’s event is especially important. Everyone in the chatroom is an RFA member.
Right at that moment, 707 bursts into the chatroom in full meltdown mode — WHY did everyone meet each other without him?! He recovers quickly enough to introduce himself: I’m a genius programmer, I built this whole chatroom ^_<
Zen immediately suspects he had cameras planted somewhere.
707: I sent all my intentions out to the universe, and the universe responded to me…
Before Zen can even respond to that, Jumin wonders aloud whether this might actually be proof that black magic is real.
707, having caused maximum chaos, announces he has things to do and logs off (Yoosung falls for it as usual).
Looking at this wonderfully weird group of people, Hana thinks about how much Rika must have meant to all of them. With everyone declaring they’ll help her out, Hana pumps herself up and shouts: I’ll give it everything I’ve got! Count on me!
Jumin is very pleased with her enthusiasm.
Hana can’t quite believe any of this is happening. Just a few days ago her life was falling apart. She makes up her mind to work as hard as she possibly can and carry on what Rika started.
