Invitation of Mystic Messenger Episode 05

This post covers Episode 05 of the official Mystic Messenger webtoon, Invitation of Mystic Messenger (check out my game intro and Another Story walkthrough if you’re new!). This episode picks up after Hana has started working, and covers two moments: her chat with Yoosung that touches on his relationship with Rika, and Zen showing up out of nowhere with a bag of freshly baked bungeoppang (fish-shaped pastries — you’ll want some after reading this).

At C&R, Jumin is surrounded by his usual entourage when Hana comes by. Hana says she wants to get up to speed on the work quickly, and mentions that Yoosung’s coming to help out. Then suddenly she blurts out: “Is that Elizabeth the 3rd?!” Turns out Jumin has some of Elizabeth the 3rd’s fur on his suit — Hana remembered Yoosung mentioning that Jumin has a cat.
Jumin tells her she’s being weird, and also that she doesn’t need to call him “Mr. Han” — just use his name. The two of them head off (and on her way out, Hana gives Jaehee an encouraging “hang in there!”).

Yoosung shows up right after that. He comes rushing in looking flustered — he stayed up too late playing games the night before and slept through his alarm that morning.
They head to the office together, where Hana has moved all of Rika’s documents over from the apartment (since the apartment’s location has to stay secret). As they sort through everything, Hana finds herself admiring how capable Rika must have been to handle all of this. Yoosung, on the other hand, gives Hana props for doing such a great job despite having no prior experience — which makes her blush more than she expects.

Noticing Yoosung’s blond hair, Hana asks: are you Rika’s brother?
Yoosung says he’s actually her cousin, and that the blond hair is dyed.
Hana says it’s not just the resemblance — it’s more that they give off the same kind of feeling. They’re both so warm with people, and they both just light up any room they walk into. It’s genuinely rare to find someone with that kind of positive energy, she says.

Yoosung is thrilled by this, and they chat a bit about the game he’s been playing — LOLOL.
Then, out of nowhere, Yoosung says: I’m really glad you took on this job. It’s like Rika has returned.
Hana doesn’t quite understand what he means by that, and decides not to push it.

Later, in the chatroom, Yoosung says he has class and can’t come help, so Hana works solo at C&R for the day. She powers through a long stretch of work — and ends up dozing off on the office sofa.

Zen stops by the office with a big bag of fresh-from-the-oven bungeoppang [fish-shaped sweet pastries], fully intending to share them with Hana. But she’s asleep. So Zen peeks at her computer screen instead, and sees just how much work she’s been putting in.

Hana wakes up to find Zen standing right there in front of her. Oh no. OH NO.
