Invitation of Mystic Messenger Episode 07

This is an episode recap for the official Mystic Messenger webtoon, Invitation of Mystic Messenger (see also: game introduction, Another Story walkthrough). Following the shock of learning Rika has passed away, Hana tries to confirm whether the person she met really was Rika. Yoosung opens up about his resentment toward V, and 707 urges Hana to always stay on guard.

Unable to contain her curiosity, Hana finally asks Yoosung why he said Rika had passed away. Yoosung realizes V never explained any of this to Hana, so he goes over it again — Rika left them a year ago, and RFA’s activities have been on hold ever since. Hana had been hoping to borrow a photo from Yoosung to confirm whether the person she’d encountered really was Rika, but Yoosung shows his vulnerable side, and seeing how fragile he is, Hana figures maybe the person she met wasn’t Rika after all — and can’t bring herself to press further.

Back at Rika’s apartment, Hana tries searching online for photos of Rika but turns up nothing. She thinks about looking for other clues around the apartment, but remembers 707’s warning not to go through Rika’s belongings. She decides to log into the chat instead.

In the chatroom, she finds 707, Yoosung, and Jumin all online. Jumin is busy complaining about why Elizabeth the 3rd has stopped eating ever since she’s been staying at Jaehee’s place Q_Q Hana notices that Yoosung has class the next day and gently reminds him (Yoosung: “Great, one more person nagging me…”), then casually asks which university he goes to.

Yoosung: I go to SKY University. [Note: SKY is a Korean acronym for three prestigious universities — Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University. Either way, it means Yoosung attends a top-tier school.]
Hana: WHAAAAT!!??
Yoosung: You seem a little too surprised…Jumin even offered me an internship at C&R, you know.
Hana: Wow, that’s great.
Yoosung: That didn’t sound like a compliment at all…
Hana: So then why are you like… this?

707 jumps in to “help out,” explaining that the reason Yoosung is the way he is comes down to three things:

1. He games way too much;
2. He doesn’t have a girlfriend (Yoosung: “I mean, what am I supposed to do about that”);
3. The biggest issue — he hates V.

Yoosung doesn’t deny it. How can V stay so calm after Rika left? That’s what he can’t wrap his head around.
Hana can’t help but cut in and ask if something happened between V and Rika. Yoosung says they were engaged (Hana: “So they were dating?”), but after Rika left, V nearly dissolved RFA altogether — and Yoosung can’t forgive him for that. He sees it as V trying to erase every trace of Rika’s existence.
Just as Yoosung is getting worked up, Jumin finishes his call and steps in to calm things down:

V can deal with Rika’s passing however he chooses. You can disagree with how he’s doing it, but that doesn’t mean he’s wrong.
Everyone mourns in their own way.

707 then asks if Jumin figured out why Elizabeth the 3rd won’t eat — turns out Jaehee had been overfeeding her with rice…
At that point, Yoosung says his mood has completely tanked and announces he’s logging off… to play LOLOL and decompress XD
Jumin follows suit. The chatroom is left with just Hana and 707.

Hana asks if 707 is less busy today than usual — how else is he managing to hang around the chat this long? Turns out 707 had just pulled an all-nighter and was winding down (and took the opportunity to casually plug his bizarre homemade drink, SEVENSTAR).
After some goofing around, 707 gets a little reflective and says scenes like this always make him wonder — if Rika were still here, what would things look like?
Hana asks if 707 has any idea who Unknown is, or why he sent her to Rika’s apartment. 707 says he doesn’t have any leads but suspects it might be someone Rika knew; he’s working hard to find answers. He also mentions that since Unknown’s intentions are unclear, he wants Hana to be very careful — and to come to the chatroom immediately if anything feels off. Hana thanks him, touched to realize how much he’s been looking out for her. 707 flashes a big grin and logs off.

In the end, after all that chatting, Hana never did get her hands on a photo of Rika. But knowing that people are watching out for her makes her feel pretty good about things.
