First off, my head was kind of spinning after playing through this…
Turns out both endings are actually Good Endings — they just have different colors. One is yellow, one is green. If you’re not sure which you got, the difference is whether or not you meet Jumin’s mother: the yellow ending includes that encounter, the green one doesn’t.
Here’s a breakdown of both, with my thoughts at the end.
Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After — Good End (Yellow)
After stepping out of the garden, who’s waiting for them but Jumin’s mother — Carolyn.
While Alfredo goes to prepare lunch, Carolyn wastes no time telling them to break up, because they have absolutely nothing in common.
(If you sass her at this point, Jumin falls even harder for you XDDD)
Carolyn asks to speak with Jumin alone, pulling out the “I have terminal cancer” card — apparently she’s been fighting a brain tumor for over three years with no hope of recovery. But Jumin tells her he hopes she can let go of her obsession with controlling everything.
She wants Jumin to marry for a specific purpose, the way she did, so she wants to set him up with a Miss Christopher before she passes — one last thing she can do as his mother. And then she adds: “She’s a lot like me, not just in personality but in looks. I’ve heard sons often end up with someone who resembles their mother.”
Jumin: “My head hurts… I’m trying to figure out where to even start refuting this…”
“If she’s like you, then I want nothing to do with her,” Jumin replies. “You’re very confident in many things, but you have no idea how to make people want to stay by your side.” He then turns to the MC to confirm she won’t be leaving him.
Carolyn tries one more time — threatening to cut off his financial support, and framing it all as a “dying wish.” Jumin, unmoved, says the MC is more precious to him than any of that.
Running out of options, Carolyn suddenly signals Alfredo to bring something over. It’s… one million in cash!!!
Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After CG. I want the money too!
Carolyn points out that C&R’s performance has dropped sharply since the two of them got together, and tells the MC to think carefully about what’s really best for Jumin.
She also warns that once their relationship goes public, the media will swarm them, and the MC will spend her whole life in the shadow of someone “better” — always the weaker party. But if she takes the money, she can become a winner in life and be free.
The MC refuses, of course.
Jumin apologizes to her for all the absurdity, and Carolyn has no choice but to accept the situation.
Jumin tells his mother he hopes she can find something that truly fulfills her in the time she has left.
His response clearly surprises her. She says his love is neither as vulgar as his father’s nor as cold as hers — he’s cultivated his own way of loving. She finally understands: children inherit their parents’ genes, but they also create something new.
“I’m tired of living this way. I’d like your opinion — what should I do in the last moments of my life?” she asks.
Jumin says, “I think this is something a father would normally say, but… I suggest you go find love.”
The MC is surprised to hear Jumin say something so romantic.
And with that, the strange day comes to a close.
A few days later, Jumin seems changed. He decides to go back to work and starts renovating the basement.
He thanks the MC for giving him a beautiful memory to say goodbye to it with — the whole villa feels brand new.
Please, stay here forever.
We can get married. We can have a child… If you would like to.
Wait, is this a proposal?! But Jumin says he’s just checking on the MC’s feelings.
I love you.
Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After CG. Something tells me Jumin’s actual proposal will be absolutely over-the-top XD
【Good Ending】
Oh, and… it turns out his mother was faking the illness at Christopher’s request.
Anyway, everyone lives happily ever after.
Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After — Good End (Green)
After stepping out of the garden, it’s completely empty — Jumin figures his mother must still be inside, and decides to take the MC to one of his other villas.
The two of them resolve to give up everything — work, family, responsibilities, all of it — and simply live for themselves.
A few days later, Jumin brings up his current views on love.
He plans to give the MC extremely strict safety measures and a set of rules — but rules are meant to be broken. He wants to watch her break them.
Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After CG. Honestly not sure what comes next…
You look most human when you are perfectly unclad.
Everything is built for their pleasure alone; the outside world is shut out entirely. Even when the MC tries to bring up his mother, Jumin keeps going.
You have darkness inside you. Let me turn it all into pleasure.
In fear there is pleasure; in pleasure there is fear.
He tells the MC to let go of all thoughts. He can hold her entirely in his hands.
Remember, we are in love.
【Good Ending】
The MC seems to find this side of Jumin… kind of sexy, and doesn’t dislike this kind of relationship.
Honestly, I was never a fan of Jumin’s bad route to begin with. It’s probably the one I can tolerate most out of all the characters’ bad routes, but still — not really my thing.
The first time through, I deliberately picked the most reckless, madly-in-love-with-Jumin options, figuring I’d hit the bad ending first. But nope — I got the good ending, and it actually managed to shift how I felt about this route.
In the yellow ending, we finally get a real look at Jumin’s background — how he was shaped by his upbringing, how despite that polished exterior he’s always craved love, and how his mother was simply unable to give it to him. Because he never learned how to love properly, he defaulted to the only way he knew: control.
But in this ending, the MC’s unconditional love (I’ll admit I don’t fully understand it) somehow helps him break through that — and reconnect with his relationship with his mother. She becomes like a mirror for him; through her, he finally sees both his strengths and his limitations, and it’s the MC who gives him the support to reach that understanding.
The ending is a happy one: the MC is still living in the villa, but it’s clear Jumin is giving her the freedom to choose. And his mother wasn’t even sick to begin with — which honestly, good for everyone.
The green ending hit differently when I played through it the second time. I genuinely struggled.
I think reaching the green ending requires the MC to be more resistant — she doesn’t want to stay by Jumin’s side constantly, and she has no interest in resolving things with his mother. That resistance causes Jumin’s feelings to balloon out of control, and they end up abandoning everything to live in isolation.
Is that romantic? I don’t think so. Jumin’s mental state at the end really doesn’t look good orz
Maybe some people enjoy being in that kind of dynamic, but personally, I much prefer the yellow ending.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed the coverage!
