Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After Episode 01

The story opens with Jumin’s monologue:

The doors separating us from the world outside may be closed. However, our doors for each other are more than open. There is only a single guide in our life – the pleasure of the present.

Living in the pleasure of the present is their one and only goal. Jumin offers the MC every indulgence she could want — she can stay as long as she likes, because this is the ending they both chose.

Come now, open your eyes.

She opens her eyes to find Jumin holding a glass of red wine, butler Alfredo standing behind him, inviting her to join in this “game” she chose.

Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After CG — the two of them beginning their new life together.

Alfredo mentions that people at the company have started complaining about Jumin skipping work more and more often, but Jumin doesn’t seem bothered. Through his dialogue, it also becomes clear that all of this came down to the MC’s own choices — whether she actually leaves this house is entirely up to her (the options seem to split into “wanting Jumin to have her” vs. “wanting to leave”).

Then Jaehee shows up. Since Jumin refuses to come in, Jaehee has no choice but to come to the villa herself. Jumin has the idea to ask Jaehee to give the MC a tour of his childhood home while he stays behind to deal with paperwork.

Inside, they spot the adorable Elizabeth the 3rd — turns out the MC has already been living here for two months!!!
This house was where Jumin used to keep his childhood toys (honestly, goals). It has a staff of eight: butlers, gardeners, and one temporary butler.
But Jaehee warns the MC: if Jumin keeps refusing to leave, things at C&R are going to spiral. She’s hoping the MC can convince Jumin, and reminds her that every sweet arrangement has an expiration date — she should keep that in mind.
Mid-conversation, Jumin is already messaging to say he wants to see the MC. Jaehee takes her back.

Back with Jumin, he’s only finished 32% of his documents but is already asking Jaehee to leave. He also dismisses the butler — but the butler hands him a letter without a postage stamp…
It’s from Jumin’s mother.
His mother has a neurological illness with only about two months left to live, and she wants Jumin to marry the eldest daughter of the Christophers before she passes. By the count, this would make her Jumin’s seventh fiancée — his mother has been arranging matches for him non-stop, though Jumin has never acknowledged any of them.
He finds the unstamped letter suspicious, and if Alfredo pulls anything else strange, he’ll fire him. But first, he needs to confirm the letter really came from his mother.

Jumin heads off to deal with that, and sends the MC to her fitness class. She suddenly asks, “Is there a basement in this place?”
Jumin seems slightly surprised — he says he’ll take her there someday.

Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After Episode 02

First thing in the morning, the MC decides what to do. The conversation she has and the CG she unlocks depends on her choice — so if you want to collect all CGs, make sure to play through all three options.

Send a transmission to space (707)

The MC settles in to meditate — and who should appear in her mind but the defender of justice, 707!!!
Turns out Vanderwood has been stopping him from eating Honey Buddha Chips, and he’s been so anxious that he turned to meditation. During the session, he apparently found a sealed box inside himself, full of his obsession with HBC — an obsession rooted in anxiety.
So he asks the MC, “So where does your anxiety come from?”

The MC keeps meditating. She senses the energy of a young Jumin in the room — and also a very dark energy coming from a woman, emanating from the basement.

Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After CG — the woman with her back turned is Jumin’s mother.

The woman with her back turned is Jumin’s mother. She tells young Jumin that his future has already been decided: he will inherit the company, and he will marry the woman she has chosen for him.

Young Jumin asks curiously: Is that bad?
Mother: No. You’ve grown exactly as I hoped — “perfect.” But it seems like you’re drifting further and further away from being a normal human…
Young Jumin: You’ve achieved what you wanted, yet you push it all away. Maybe the problem lies within you.
Mother: You don’t act like a child at all. You are what I wanted, but you make me feel unsettled — can’t you be more normal?
Young Jumin: But then that wouldn’t be me. You made me this way.

The meditation is interrupted by Jumin’s voice — apparently the MC was so focused she didn’t even notice him come in.
Even when the past comes up, Jumin says: “We belong to the present.”
If she asks about the basement, Jumin says it’s full of old toys and memories that are “far from pleasurable.”
He tells her he wants her company tonight. Reading between the lines of what he says, it feels like Jumin has never quite found real “freedom.”

The world sees me as a commander — purely because of my appearance (the suit), my money and power, and the social status I was given.
But strip all that away, and I’m just a person.

Ordinary people dream of having money and power — but his life already is other people’s dreams. So instead, he finds himself obsessed with possessing the MC’s heart.

And then night falls.

Do something Jumin wouldn’t like (Zen)

When it comes to people Jumin dislikes, Zenny tops the list. When Zen finally hears from the MC, his voice is urgent — he can’t believe Jumin basically locked her up like a cat!
He hears Jumin isn’t even going to work, and thinks Jumin might as well quit and let Jaehee take over.
Also, 707 apparently invented another new brand XD
After chatting with Zenny for a long time, the MC feels happy to have any connection with the outside world. She takes the chance to ask about Jumin’s past.
Zen isn’t really interested in Jumin’s affairs, but he does know the villa is a place Jumin lived with his mother (and stepmother?), and they were both very…
He doesn’t finish the sentence — the call cuts out. In its place, Jumin’s voice: he’s been listening in the whole time. He reiterates that seeing the MC happily chatting with someone else makes him jealous (he knows it’s not healthy, but he can’t help it), and he’s on his way.
A new CG unlocks here — Jumin looking very unhappy. He knows Zen has always been interested in the MC and has been trying to take her away.

Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After CG — seeing the MC and Zenny having such a great time, Jumin is furious with jealousy.

Jumin stays and spends the night with the MC.

Turn on the computer (Yoosung)

Choosing to turn on the computer auto-logs her into LOLOL where she runs into Yoosung.
First thing Yoosung asks is when the two of them are getting married XD He’s so envious they can just live like this, not working. Yoosung fills her in on what’s been happening in the outside world, and then the two of them play for 12 hours…
Suddenly a user with the ID “LordOfDarkMagic” pops up and messages Yoosung. Naturally, it’s Jumin.
Jumin tells Yoosung he’ll give him a mountain of in-game gear — in exchange for a full play-by-play of his conversation with the MC.
Yoosung, of course, crumbles under financial (in-game) pressure XD But before the deal goes through, Yoosung mentions that this house is where Jumin used to live with his mother, and he’d heard from V that Jumin’s mother wasn’t… a normal person. Apparently there’s even a basement there, and it was once used to lock up Ju—
The connection gets cut before he can finish. In its place: Jumin’s voice. He’s been watching her every move, and gently (not so gently) suggests she not spend so much time gaming. He also advises her to stop trying to keep up with the outside world.
The internet stays cut for the next 24 hours…

I really like how the three paths each reveal a different side of what’s going on, and the 707 route hits the core theme hardest.
What is Jumin’s deepest issue, really? That feels like the whole point of this DLC.
