Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After Episode 03
The MC wakes up from another strange dream about Jumin’s past.
Young Jumin suddenly asks the tutor who comes to the house a question: “Why are children drawn to supernatural things like magic?” Apparently he finds C&R’s toy lineup too over-the-top XD “Are these toys an expression of adult sympathy for children? Like adults hoping kids can keep enjoying these fantasies while they still can?”
And that… stumps the tutor. She says she’ll have to think about it and leaves.
Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After CG — young Jumin and his mother in conversation.
“Don’t you believe in magic?” Jumin’s mother asks suddenly. “Children love magic because they’ve just begun new lives. A new life is like magic.” But she doesn’t think Jumin’s birth was magic — she found the best genes through a coordinated marriage [TN: more of an arranged match through formal channels, as opposed to a love marriage] and expected Jumin to become the world’s most powerful CEO. Maybe that’s why Jumin has always been so emotionally detached. “I might live to see you turn into a robot.”
Young Jumin: “That won’t happen — then I’d lose my value and they’d want to replace me with the latest AI.” He learned from his father that in business, humans have value because they’re irreplaceable. “Is it because I speak like a robot? Should I deliberately switch to a more natural way of talking?”
Jumin’s mother: “That would be even more unsettling.”
There’s an important line here. Jumin’s mother says:
You will choose to hide your desires and needs, and instead control others, bending them to your logic while maintaining your dignity. When you’re out of sight, you’ll indulge your deepest desires. That’s what “winners” like us do. So your life is destined to be that of a controller and a winner — not a child who believes in magic.
Work matters more than relationships. Power wins over love.
Young Jumin still says family and love are important, but his mother just laughs. “Someday you’ll find something more important than family. Because you’re my son, my masterpiece.”
Young Jumin: …I feel like a tool. Sometimes I just want to be seen as a son.
But his mother considers things like parental responsibility, love, and compassion to be illusions conjured by those who don’t understand what gain actually means. “If you want me to play the role of a mother, then you’d have to become a different person.”
Young Jumin makes an excuse to leave and sighs:
I’m not like her. I won’t be like her. I won’t be that cold. I’ll treat my family warmly.
Even if I have to give up money and glory…
The dream ends. On the other side of the bed, Jumin is asleep. The MC wakes him.
Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After CG — sleepy Jumin is adorable!
They talk about yesterday’s call with his mother. It turns out Alfredo was his mother’s plant — Jumin has no choice but to fire him. He respects his mother, but it’s the MC who has brought real love and happiness into his life. This is the first time in his life he’s been able to act on pure instinct. When he was young, he never knew this kind of sweetness could exist.
Show me that you love me. I want to know what love is. You’re the only one who can teach me.
Jumin leans into the MC.
Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After Episode 04
In the morning, the MC walks into the living room and notices the basement door is open. Alfredo — who should have been fired by now — is still there, and he tells the MC to go down and take a look. He says Jumin is already downstairs, so the MC slowly makes her way down into the dark basement.
The lights come on. Jumin is right there.
The room is filled with old toys — the best-selling items from C&R’s toy division. If they ever want to renovate this place, these toys will have to be dealt with first.
But because of the bad memories here, Jumin has never really wanted to put his attention toward it.
Mystic Messenger Bad Jumin & After CG — so this is what the basement looks like.
It turns out Jumin’s mother used to lock him in here — more than once (one time for as long as 17 hours) — because she wanted him to “properly play” with the toys.
She was full of contradictions: she wanted Jumin to be just like her, and at the same time resented it. Both of them longed for the ordinary love between a parent and child, and yet neither of them could offer it.
Suddenly the phone rings. It’s his mother. They’d planned to meet next week — but it turns out she’s already upstairs, waiting for him and the MC. He figures she’s come to break them apart, so he decides to leave through the secret passage with the MC (the one he dug out during the 17-hour lockup). But first, he wants to make some good memories here before they go.
So the two of them get up to something interesting (?) — it cuts to black and you can’t see a thing!!!
Afterwards (?), Jumin wants to change clothes first. In the basement there’s a fairy-tale outfit (wait, why do you have that?), and apparently he bought it when he was young — one set for an adult, one for a child. (Jumin: “If we stay longer, the children’s size might come in handy too.”)
He finds the secret passage entrance, and the two of them make their way through to the garden…
(From here, the story branches toward the endings based on your choices.)
These two episodes really dig into Jumin’s relationship with his mother, and you can see just how much it shaped his understanding of “love.”
The endings will show you what your choices ultimately lead to.
